With the current legal gray areas surrounding the sale of hemp CBD products in North Carolina and the U.S. in general, cannabis industry producers near Asheville and beyond encounter many challenges in navigating fintech companies’ complex policies. We had witnessed our clients’ struggles with Stripe, Square, and other standard payment processors in the past. So when Firetree Organics founder Samuel Taylor contacted us for help getting his online shop back in business after a struggle to find reliable payment processing, we knew the job might exceed the usual scope of a website build.

Fortunately, LightPress’ friendly Squarespace expert and lead designer Daniel was up to the challenge! We helped Firetree to jump through the approval hoops to get an Authorize.net payment gateway for CBD sales approved and connected to his shop via Shopify’s brilliant integration with Squarespace. While using three different platforms to sell online may sound like a lot to manage, in this particular industry, Firetree’s setup is among the most streamlined available at the time of launch in 2024. We look forward to more future developments that streamline options for the cannabis industry’s financial services.

We are excited that Firetree has also opened a brick-and-mortar shop just north of us in beautiful Burnsville, NC, and Sam has been able to use the same payment processing strategy for his point of sale system, which integrates seamlessly with the Squarespace site, the Shopify cart, and the Authorize.net gateway. Phew! It took some effort to get there, but we arrived.

We think the website is also really cute, conveying the homegrown organic vibes that Sam was trying to capture for the Firetree brand.
